About this Course

This certification course provides a proper academic foundation, theoretical knowledge, and practical skills training in teaching students with special education needs.
The lectures involve informative videos, group activities and role playing, and is paired with an internship which provides hands-on training in a school environment.

Entry requirement  Basic understanding of the English language to follow the course
  • Introduction to special education needs
  • Child development and Child development theories
  • Skills for learning and Skill development
  • Neurodiversity and introduction to various diagnoses
  • Functions of Behaviour and classroom behaviour management
  • The different education setting and supporting the SEN child
  • Social construct of disability
Assessment – Assignments and presentations. No exams.

Ishanthi is a behaviour analyst and ABA therapist, with work experience in Canada and Sri Lanka. She has worked in the special needs and skill building space for over 20 years and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this certification programme. Having worked closely with preschool and grade school teachers for the past 10 years, she understands the skills that are most required in the classroom and has tailored the curriculum to focus on those. She currently works as the Head of Student Support Services at Asian International School, Behaviour Analyst and Special needs consultant at ABC preschools, consults at Asiri Hospital, consults with many preschools and private schools in Colombo, and works with the Police women and children’s bureau.
